BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Hummus and Homicide (Kebab Kitchen Mystery #1) by Tina Kashian

Hummus and Homicide (A Kebab Kitchen Mystery) by Tina Kashian

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Kensington (February 27, 2018)
Mass Market Paperback: 336 pages
ISBN-13: 978-1496713476
Digital ASIN: B071FLH733
When Lucy Berberian quits her Philadelphia law firm and heads home to Ocean Crest, she knows what she’s getting—the scent of funnel cake, the sight of the wooden roller coaster, and the tastes of her family’s Mediterranean restaurant. But murder wasn’t on the menu . . .
Things are slow in the off-season in this Jersey Shore town, but Lucy doesn’t mind. She doesn’t even mind waitressing at the Kebab Kitchen. Her parents have put in a new hummus bar, with every flavor from lemon to roasted red pepper. It’s fun to see their calico cat again, and to catch up with her old BFF, who’s married to a cop now.
She could do without Heather Banks, though. The Gucci-toting ex-cheerleader is still as nasty as she was back in high school . . . and unfortunately, she’s just taken over as the local health inspector. Just minutes after eating at the Kebab Kitchen—where she’s tallied up a whole list of bogus violations—she falls down dead in the street. Word on the grapevine is it’s homicide, and Lucy’s the number one suspect . . .
Recipes included!
Review:  Another fun cozy series begins! I love all of the characters we meet in Ocean Crest, New Jersey, and look forward to getting to know them better in future books. The Kebab Kitchen, complete with hummus bar, sounds like a great place to eat (too bad it's not real!) Lucy, as well as her family and friends, is a likable character with very relatable issues.

The mystery is very well written and keeps you guessing right up to the big reveal.  It's definitely not a predictable mystery plot!

The fact that this series was inspired by the author's own experiences shows in the details and makes the story that much more believable.

Definitely a must read for cozy fans.

BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Pawprints & Predicaments (Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery #3) by Bethany Blake

Pawprints & Predicaments (Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery) by Bethany Blake

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
3rd in Series
Kensington (February 27, 2018)
Mass Market Paperback: 304 pages
ISBN-13: 978-1496707420
Digital ASIN: B071SK3VF9
The Tail Waggin’ Winterfest is the highlight of the season in the famously pet-friendly Pocono Mountains town of Sylvan Creek. But despite attractions like an ice sculpture display, a dogsled race, and gourmet hot chocolate, Daphne Templeton finds herself annoyed by TV producer Lauren Savidge, who’s filming the festivities. She’s critical, controlling, and as chilly as the January air. Daphne would like to tell her to go jump in a lake—and as a matter of fact, that’s exactly what they’re both going to do . . .
It’s the first-ever polar bear plunge in Lake Wallapawakee, and Daphne and Lauren are among the eighty or so people who charge into the frigid water to raise funds for animals in need. Daphne makes it back to shore—with the help of a mysterious St. Bernard—but Lauren is dragged out stone cold dead. Now, with her trusty basset hound Socrates at her side, Daphne intends to assist Detective Jonathan Black in his investigation—whether he wants her to or not . . .
Includes recipes for homemade pet treats!

Review: This is my first experience with this series, but it most definitely won't be my last. I am a big fan of Daphne and all of the animals in her life. Her personality is appealing--she's very fun-loving and eager to help her friends, both human and animal.

Winterfest is a big part of life in Sylvan Creek, especially this year with a television crew filming all the festivities. Unfortunately, the producer winds up dead, putting a damper on things, and re-igniting Daphne's enthusiasm for solving crimes.

I most enjoyed the interactions between Daphne and her basset hound, Socrates. She holds conversations with him and is able to recognize what his different expressions and mannerisms mean. He makes for a great supporting character.

The story is very well written, and the final reveal was a pretty big surprise, especially since I had fallen for some of the red herrings the author wrote into the plot.

Review: I was unaware of Passion music until I was given the opportunity to listen to this CD. As I listened, I recognized a few of the songs, as we sing them in our worship service. The ones that I don't know, I'm going to be listening to until I learn them.

These songs are very upbeat and catchy, and they all have important messages to share. I plan to add this CD to those I use during my morning "God time." And I've started following Passion on Spotify as well.

Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christian music.

The Promise by Sally Jenkins

Synopsis: A man has been stabbed. A woman is bloodstained. The nightmares from her teenage years have begun again for Olivia Field – just as she is preparing to marry.

Ex-convict Tina is terminally ill. Before she dies, the care of her younger, psychologically unwell brother, Wayne must be ensured. So Tina calls in a promise made to her thirty years ago in a prison cell. A promise that was written down and placed with crucial evidence illustrating a miscarriage of justice in a murder case.

Tina believes Olivia is perfectly placed to provide the care Wayne needs, but to do so, Olivia must be forced to cancel her own wedding and wreck the lives of those close to her. Tina’s terrible blackmail demands put Olivia’s entire future and, ultimately, her freedom under threat.

The Promise is a fast-paced psychological thriller told from several third-person viewpoints. The novel explores the lengths to which people are prepared to go in order to protect those they love and the impossibility of ever fully escaping our past actions.

Review: This book is definitely action-packed. Sometimes there is so much going on you wonder how it will all wrap up by the end of the book. And, to be honest, I found that at least one major point was NOT wrapped up by the end.

The main premise of the book is how far someone would go to force someone to honor a promise made for them years ago. Tina needs to provide for her brother Wayne before cancer takes her life, She decides that Olivia should marry him and provide for him, and she is willing to go to extreme lengths to make sure it happens.

The story is very well written and paced, and the characters are well-defined. We get a look into their pasts, their motivations, and their emotions as the story plays out.

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys this genre.

BOOK REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY: Biscuits And Slashed Browns (A Country Store Mystery #4) by Maddie Day

Biscuits and Slashed Browns (A Country Store Mystery)

Cozy Mystery

4th in Series

Setting - Indiana

Kensington (January 30, 2018)

Mass Market Paperback: 292 Pages

ISBN-13: 978-1496711212

E-Book ASIN: B071DZ1K5W

For country-store owner Robbie Jordan, the National Maple Syrup Festival is a sweet escape from late-winter in South Lick, Indiana—until murder saps the life out of the celebration . . .
As Robbie arranges a breakfast-themed cook-off at Pans ‘N Pancakes, visitors pour into Brown County for the annual maple extravaganza. Unfortunately, that includes Professor Connolly, a know-it-all academic from Boston who makes enemies everywhere he goes—and this time, bad manners prove deadly. Soon after clashing with several scientists at a maple tree panel, the professor is found dead outside a sugar shack, stabbed to death by a local restaurateur’s knife. When an innocent woman gets dragged into the investigation and a biologist mysteriously disappears, Robbie drops her winning maple biscuits to search for answers. But can she help police crack the case before another victim is caught in a sticky situation with a killer?

Review: I always look forward to a new release in this series and this fourth book doesn't disappoint. If you haven't read the first three (which you should!), this story is easily read as a standalone novel.

There's a Maple Syrup Festival going on in South Lick, and that means Robbie has her hands full. She is hosting a cooking competition, feeding tourists, and trying to take in some of the festival activities as well. And that's BEFORE she has a murder to solve.

I love the people of South Lick and getting to know more about them in each book. Seeing Robbie's relationship with Abe grow and deepen is fun, and I am looking forward to when Robbie's father and stepmother visit her from Italy. Aunt Adele is a real character, and always good for a few laughs.

There are lots of twists and turns in the plot, leaving the reader guess as to the identity of the killer right up to the minute of the big reveal. Check it out soon if you enjoy a cozy Midwestern mystery.
